If new positions for PhD Students in the field of experimental and theoretical elementary particle physics and astro particle physics for excellent doctoral students with a university degree (diploma or master) from Germany or abroad are be available, they will be announced here. The positions are for a maximum of three years. There is also the possibility of a fast track PhD for excellent Master's students having completed their first year.

The Application period is now closed since the 1st of September 2010, new applications can not be accepted.

Funding

The positions are paid according to the german law depending on age, civil status and children. The contract will be made at the level of  Vgr. II2a BAT-O (AnwTVHU) for Berlin and at TVL E13 in Dresden for a half time employment.

Details on the scholarships can be given on request and can also be inferred from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft DFG  (FAQs in English/ German language).

 

Research Topics

It is recommended that applicants contact prospective supervisors and discuss their dissertation proposal according to the Research Topics of the Graduate School prior to submitting a formal application. Our research topics are:
  • Particle Physics with ATLAS
  • Astroparticle Physics with IceCube and H.E.S.S.
  • Double Beta decay
  • LHC Phenomenology
  • Quantum Field and String Theory
  • Lattice Gauge Theory  

Application

Prospective students should:

  • have an academic degree equivalent to a German Diploma or a Master in Physics;
  • a written Diploma or Master thesis
  • be prepared to take an active part in the work of the Graduiertenkolleg.

 

Applications are accepted in German or English and should contain:

  • a letter of application (no formal requirements) ;
  • the names, addresses, and e-mail addresses of two persons (typically professors) who would be willing to send a letter of reference;
  • a CV with emphasis on the academic career;
  • a short essay describing the research interest;
  • a copy of all university certificates;
  • a copy of a written diploma thesis or equivalent.
 

 

Fast Track to PhD

The Graduiertenkolleg offers qualification grants for students after their first Master's year incorporating their Master thesis into the PhD project at Humboldt-University. In Dresden the same opportunity is open for excellent students in the last year of their Diploma studies


Application as associated Member (only for PhD Students which have already a position)

 

You have the possibility to become an associated member of the Graduated School if you are already a PhD student with one of the working groups of the Graduate School. You will not be paid by the Graduated School, but you will get money for traveling and you are invited to all courses and seminars of the Graduated School.

 

The application has to be discussed in advance with you supervisor. Applications are accepted in German or English and should contain:

  • a short letter of application indicating the supervisor, start and planed end date of PhD;
  • a CV with emphasis on the academic career;
  • a short essay describing the PhD project;
  • a copy of all university certificates.
